Here at Geneva Woods, we consider “wellness” to mean a state of being in good health, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Good health – to the extent that you can control it – is achievable through improving your diet, sleep, exercise, stress levels, and the quality of your relationships. In the UK, this is referred to as “lifestyle medicine,” and we feel that term describes our approach to wellness quite accurately. One of the most important aspects of truly offering “whole person care” is spending adequate time with a provider – which is more and more difficult to find in our profit-driven healthcare system.
Here at Geneva Woods, our wellness/preventative health exams are an hour with the provider, which allows get to know you and your health concerns, risks, and goals, and offer you individualized testing, services, and care.

Chronic Condition Management
Jordin Thompson, our FNP, can manage chronic conditions such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and hypothyroid, that are responsive to first-line therapies, meaning that they can be well-controlled by first line medications, and thus not need the expertise of an internal medicine physician. One benefit of working with our office for your chronic condition management is all of the complementary services we offer, such as in-house Registered Dietician guidance, and PT’s who can troubleshoot aches and pains and help you develop and stick to an exercise regimen, so that you can also use lifestyle interventions to help manage your condition(s). In the event that you happen to be a woman in the perimenopause transition, it is beneficial to work with a team that understands the interplay of your changing hormonal landscape and the risk and/or progression of various chronic conditions.
Men’s Yearly Exams
Unfortunately, men seek out primary care check-ups at far lower rates than women, with many men eschewing primary care completely until a major problem or chronic health condition rears its head in their 40’s or slightly later. While healthy men between the ages of 18-30 need only see a provider every 2-3 years, men over 30 should be getting annual exams every year. Men’s wellness exams here at Geneva Woods are 45-60 min long, and cover a variety of aspects of your health, both physical and mental. It’s worth noting that they do not include a routine prostate exam, so if fear of the ol’ “bend over and cough” is keeping you from getting an annual check-up, it should not. The physical exam is a relatively small portion of the visit, with most of the time spent focusing on health risks, lifestyle habits, stressors, familial and personal cancer risks, and offering appropriate lab tests, imaging, specialist referrals, lifestyle ‘prescriptions,’ and medications as needed. Why wait until you have already developed a full blown ‘chronic condition’ when you could potentially head it off at the pass with knowledge and lifestyle changes?
Urgent Care
We can see women, men, and kids over the age of 2 for typical urgent care needs, such as common seasonal illnesses, rashes, some injuries, STI symptoms or testing, etc, though it depends on the day. Best to call and check, because if we can get you in, you’ll get a firm appointment time, and lower prices than most urgent cares (and pediatric offices) charge.
