Women are increasingly looking for alternatives to large-practice physicians and Western-medicine style models of care. Women’s Wellness at The Nest in Anchorage offers a unique middle ground between the medical model provided by doctors and the alternative model provided by naturopaths, and taking from each tradition that which is proven to be effective at treating health problems and improving lives. As nurse-midwives, we bring the Midwifery Model of Care to our women’s health practice. Nurse practitioners and nurse midwives are trained in the medical and nursing models of care, and believe in providing holistic care for the whole person.
To us, "wellness" doesn't have the same meaning that thousands of 'wellness influencers' on social media seem to believe it does. To us wellness simply means "being well," which we define as being in the best health possible for your self as an individual - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Caring for your health is a life-long process, and an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure in approaching your later years in optimal health. We aim to truly partner with our clients to help them achieve their goals live their best lives.
We take our time and value yours.
Annual exams are scheduled for one hour, giving us enough time to explore both the physical and emotional aspects of your care. Our providers will spend the entire length of a visit with you, rather than relying on RNs or MAs to take vitals, histories and assessments.
We take the time to talk through any issues, identifying treatment solutions that are just as likely to include physical therapy, pharmaceutical, or surgical options, as cognitive behavioral therapy, dietary changes, acupuncture, herbs, hypnosis, or yoga.
We will always return your phone calls or emails promptly, and can frequently answer questions outside the context of a visit.
Evidence-Based Care
Practicing evidence-based care is one of our core values, which means we stay current on medical research, and recommend treatments that have strong evidence to support their efficacy.
You’re a good fit for our philosophy of care if you are looking for providers who:
-
Take the time to explain the rationale behind their thinking to you, cite the evidence behind their recommendations, and involve you in the medical decision-making process – which is what truly informed consent means to us.
-
Value transparency both in medical decision-making and costs of care.
- Tend to eschew newer and more expensive drugs that have not been on the market long enough to demonstrate safety and efficacy, relying on more tried-and-true drugs, when needed.
- Do not have a financial stake in the treatment options that they recommend (such as lab tests, imaging, and supplements)
